These past couple of days were at times boring, but extremely fruitful. I first spent basically a full day of adjusting apps, settings, changing my desktop layouts on two computers, removing distractions from them, which included some minor registry fiddling, deleted some files/cleaned stuff up, in particular my desktop, adjusted my internet blocks a little bit more (which had been still on but in a sort of soft-mode; starting tomorrow it’s all on again.) I also spent a while hunting for references for the next LL design. Basically, a big day of prep for the week.
I also, however, got to read a bit: the latest volume of Beastars, and my antique copy of La Condesa De Ségur’s “Los Niños Buenos”, a favorite from my childhood (already ancient when I read it as a child!) I found a Spanish copy which certainly brings a lot of good memories.
Today all of that prep paid off. I got my chores done in time, worked on commissions, my books, personal art, even got to read for a while. It was an extremely satisfactory day!
I also went for a walk to get groceries for tomorrow’s dinner and to Hobby Lobby where I scored a few nice goodies:
A little mesh container that will serve as a wonderful emergency snail hold, some colorful wood pieces to decorate my walls, a pecan log (something I’ve never tried) and a squishy pen in some of my favorite colors. I also got a little hat, unsure of who would wear it. In the end, it was Ramen Noodle who got to keep it:
I’d say he looks quite dapper, don’t you?
After I decorated a little I wanted to take a photo of my computer area with its new wallpapers because it’s making me so happy:
Everything around me is so colorful and it really fills me with joy.
Anyway that’s all for now I guess, I know I’ve been very quiet on Discord and I’m super sorry. I’m just working a LOT on art. Since I know some stuff is still delayed. I am grateful to everyone for waiting patiently. 💕
Today’s my birthday! I finally got to open the box with my birthday bear on it (Wilfy, whom I’ve named Toby). The outfit I put together for him fit him really well! I think he’s got to be one of the nicest Charlie Bears I have ever seen.
I also got to open the gift from my friend Riley. The second Escargot book! It’s so cute and I can’t wait to read it with Christopher. These picture books really are a must for any snail lover.
I really wasn’t expecting to get to go anywhere today. Though I was so happy to get my new bear, it was a really sad and also very stressful day. I’m gonna go into more details about that in a later post.
But our friend Kris very generously offered to take us out both to distract us and to celebrate my birthday. He let me pick anywhere I wanted. That was a huge treat as well as seeing two of my best friends. It really made a bad day end a lot better. It felt a little odd to dress up to go out given the circumstances but I tried to be kind to myself.
I hadn’t put together an outfit in a while and I’m really happy with this one. I took MoonPie along:
We went to The Tavern. Our table was lovely, next to the fireplace, but the light also made it hard to get a good picture, as you could tell in the photo:
I had a fancy drink:
Sorry the photos are so bad, the light was really poor as I said… anyhow, it was a nice enough evening after such a day. Now I’m 37. Happy Birthday to me!
Recently I’ve started to collect snail related books, since there aren’t a whole lot. Some of them have begun to arrive:
Snail Trail by Ruth Brown is definitely a winner. Only a fellow snail lover can really understand the utter love and observation the author has, and put into, snails, in order to create this book. Snails are surprisingly expressive and easy to anthropomorphize, not necessarily visually (though the author did a superb job) but rather, to someone who loves and watches them, it’s impossible to miss all the little ways in which they move their feelers, how their eyes often look in different directions, how they stretch, etc. You can tell the author took careful loving observation of these traits.
I can not recommend this book enough. Look for it on Amazon. It’s very short but it is lovely.
I’ve placed it on display in my studio. There’s a little snail toy I’m expecting, which I will display next to it:
Ten Shiny Snails by Ruth Galloway has been another favorite. Inside, there is a lovely page featuring the snails with a squirrel! I was so tickled by this, that I gave it prominent display in my studio as well:
I don’t expect to share all of the books I ordered but thought these were cute enough.
Good morning everyone! I’m spending a happy morning on the porch over here, with MoonPie and all our cats:
Watching the blue jays eat corn and the squirrel eat critter mix (they’re eating from different feeders.) Drinking my favorite coffee, listening to music, reading a good book, working on art… feels good. How are you spending your Sunday?
It’s a fairly crappy day so I’m making it better with spice drops, cookies, coffee and a good book. I ordered this book used for like $4 the other day and it turned out to be a FREAKING SIGNED COPY by Anne Rice herself. 😭 WHAT 😱
I’m going to be sharing my Megaplex goodies now, as well as stuff that I received either on the days right before or while I was gone on my trip. So, this post is going to be all over the place. Apologies in advance for that!
Let’s start with my TamagotchiOn… it’s here!! 🥚✨
I may wait for the little custom case I ordered to arrive before I play with it though, so it doesn’t get scratched (besides, I have work to catch up on).
Also, my ODU package made it safe and sound!
I was really worried because Christopher said we had a massive storm. I pre-sign my deliveries so they’ll leave them at the door, and Christopher said it was literally submerged in water! Yet somehow still okay. Very relieved!
This is one of the things that I bought with the birthday monies from June, Yookey and Mwako:
It took some time to arrive but it’s MASSIVE and I’m so excited to read it!
Ok, now for actual Megaplex haul stuff. First, some of the things I got at the con store, plus the deck of cards we all got as a gift:
As you can see, I also got a lanyard, wristband, the glass (yes they made one) and a wonderful water bottle! My everyday one doesn’t fit in cup holders.
I definitely dropped most of my funds at my friend Kitty (Blankit)’s table!
Not pictured here, but shown earlier, is the handmade bag by Kitty that I proudly carried my stuff in all weekend.
I love this lanyard by owlapin on Instagram SO much!
It brings back fond memories of AC earlier this year, when Sammy was giving everyone wiggly worms.
This wasn’t a purchase, but rather, a wonderful present from my little pizzly bear friend, Snow:
While I would love to whack people with it, I’d hate to break it. So it’s just my own little furry trash princess wand. Thank you Snow!! 💕💕💕
These are goodies from Madshy’s table:
I regretted not getting one of Braiden’s big ass bows… 🎀😩 next time for sure!
Not Megaplex related (I did say this was gonna be all over the place) but, slowly my patches are arriving (I won’t work on my denim jacket until they are all here). These are from patchmommy and silly_rice_shop on Instagram:
Back to Megaplex stuff, here’s some stickers and a cute button from pomgons, MaryMouse tags (I got a new squirrel one too but didn’t take a photo) a tree star sticker by Sirkus and an absolutely perfect crybaby charm, of now-forgotten origin!
I think the artist was PinkushikaArt on Instagram actually, but I can’t find it on their store? I can’t find anything else I bought from them either, though, so it has to be this.
On more official goods, here’s my shirt and an AWESOME pin!!
Props to Megaplex staff for doing a pin this year. It looks great! Here’s a close-up:
Got some stickers from my birthday buddy Colby!! Thank you Colby!! 💕 🦔 🦖
One more nerd badge by Madshy, this one is a little gift for a very dear friend who is not a furry, but who appreciates ferrets:
I forgot to include this patch when posting my Crayola Store stuff the other day:
Many thanks to WirehedLaboratories on Instagram for these quality pins!!👌👌👌👌👌
Another great Dealer’s Den find were these Tama goodies by hellocutecumber on Instagram:
Couple more patches! The heart shaped one is by richlovefinds on Instagram, and the other one is by thinkpatch on Etsy!
I also got this most excellent birthday present from my friends Henry and KB:
Surely Christopher will loathe it, which makes it 1000% better! 👌 Win-win. I can’t wait to see his face when he gets home. 😁 Thank you guys!! 🐯💕🦝
Finally… stickers from kikivonbubbles are here!! Definitely some of the most risqué stickers I ever dare put on my stuff 🙈💦💦
I’m pretty selective as to what I put some of these on, for, err, obvious reasons, but I love them. Thanks always for the freebie, Kiki!
OH, OH!! Right as I was leaving and saying goodbye to Madshy and Braiden, Braiden came running after me to give me this lovely as a b-day present!! 😭🌈 I’m naming her Chantilly! 💕🌸🧁🍬
That’s all I have to share for now. It was a lot! 😅
