End of Christmas Weekend ๐ŸŽ„โœจ

Good morning everyone! Though Christmas is this week, our weekend Christmas with family is officially over (although my mom is coming on Christmas Eve.) Yesterday my sis and mom in law went home, but we enjoyed a very nice day together before they did.

I found Buddy and Sarah in the living room yesterday, on top of the projector screen:

In the morning the weather outside was so wonderful that I went out by myself to the porch to have my coffee with the cats.

It was chilly, but the sun felt so nice. I wish everyone had come with me, but they were inside in the dark living room (no windows) playing Animal Crossing, so ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ but I had a nice little time to myself before I joined them.

Rosie sat on my lap, and was just so sleepy and a melted ball of hair and purrs.

Tomoyo would alternate between relaxing and running around with her little bursts of energy:

Kotoko quietly sunned herself…

Whilst I spent time there, I enjoyed watching the squirrels eat the food I put out for them.

Last week, our wonderful vet, Dr. Pisano, sent me a photo of Maddie in her Christmas tree:

You might remember Madeline and Croissant, our last two rats which joined our vetโ€™s mischief when we decided to stop having rats for a while. Croissant sadly passed away this year from a tumor that Dr. Pisano found too advanced to remove, but Maddie is still enjoying life as you can see.

This past week, between his work and my Christmas preparations, Christopher and I didnโ€™t have much quality time to ourselves. Even though I know he was really tired, after our family left he took me to a nice little local church event in the evening that had loads of Christmas lights and such. It was really romantic walking around together in that atmosphere even though the decorations were so old and corny.

Christopher took a photo of me next to one of the trees. I brought Ricky Parky with me; after a whole weekend of acting as “adult” as possible, being able to carry him around did wonders for my state of mind.

Later at home we decided to give one more go to chestnut roasting. Itโ€™s our fourth try… we always got bad batches before.

Itโ€™s more work than you might think. You have to make a cut in every chestnut so they donโ€™t explode in the oven. But first you boil them in order to moisten them:

Most of the floating ones tend to be bad, so we discarded those. It was only a few that floated, and indeed most of those werenโ€™t good (mold inside.)

Then they go in the oven for 15 minutes:

After they come out, you wrap them tight in a towel for, I believe, ten minutes or so. Here they are fresh out of the oven:

The results were… okay? Chestnuts are weird. Theyโ€™re very fleshy; meat-like, really. They taste good but it really feels like they should be eaten with something else, I just donโ€™t know what. In the end Christopher didnโ€™t like them but I had a few. Mostly I enjoyed the experience of roasting chestnuts together.

While they roasted I got the living room looking all festive for movie watching:

We watched another old movie, The Holly And The Ivy. It was nice. It just gives me so much unmitigated joy to watch these old movies with Christopher. Itโ€™s one of my more niche interests and to have him show a genuine interest in it makes me deeply happy.

Overall the evening together was delightful. All my stress melts away when I am with him.

The older we get and the longer we are married, the more I understand that โ€œfinding your home in a personโ€ feeling. I know I complain a lot on my blog, sometimes I mention feeling very lonely in some aspects. Thatโ€™s bound to happen sometimes… no relationship is perfect. But taking it as a whole I do think ours is one of the closest to perfect I have ever seen. I would be hard pressed to find a kinder man, who understands so much about me and accepts me so completely โ€”even the parts he doesnโ€™t understand.

But I am rambling, and today is going to be a busy day. I have to shower, take care of the snails and the rest of my chores, and then draw like thereโ€™s no tomorrow.

Oh โ€”a final note because I noticed this literally as I am wrapping up the post. I just found Buddy and Sarah for the day! They were in the Furby area of my studio bookshelf:

I hope everyone reading this has a wonderful day, and please stay safe this week!

Have A Morning Dorito

Good morning everyone ๐ŸŒž Iโ€™m having a little trouble being positive these past couple of days. Iโ€™m really sorry. I actually had a complete meltdown last night, it hadnโ€™t happened in some time, and I still feel tired from it. Sometimes it just really hits home how isolated my husband and I are now, sitting by ourselves weekend after weekend.

I know some might want to give advice, please donโ€™t, as itโ€™s a complicated situation, I am just venting a tad and donโ€™t want to get into details. You all see that I try my best to always appear happy on this blog, I talk about my mental health as little as possible. Sometimes cracks like these show. But Iโ€™ll be okay. ๐Ÿ’•

I Can’t Always Be Happy, But I’m Trying ๐ŸŒžโœŒ

Madeline says, good morning! ๐ŸŒž

I woke up around 6am today when Christopher went downstairs for painkillers for his headache. He felt bad for waking me up but I was very glad (not about his headache lol) because I have wanted to be up earlier for some time, so I can go out and cheer up a little.

To be honest Iโ€™ve been feeling a little lonesome and depressed. ๐Ÿ˜ž I want to invite friends over but the house is really dirtyโ€ฆ Iโ€™ve made a decision to have a cleaning service because with commissions, 4 cats, and 3 rats, and how massive this house is (2400 square feet 2 story with a million stupid trinkets) itโ€™s absolutely discouraging. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ It can take me 2-3 days to clean it and I have to stop from sheer exhaustion. I donโ€™t even get it fully up to scratch. So Iโ€™d rather draw for 2 days and pay someone else to come do it. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Yesterday I finished paying Christopher off for Megaplex expenses so now Iโ€™m saving the money for the cleaning. Then I can invite friends over without being embarrassed. Ah, that good olโ€™ Latin woman guilt about the houseโ€ฆ! ๐Ÿ˜… Itโ€™s also what kept me from hiring someone all this time. Iโ€™m supposed to be good at this right?? Thatโ€™s some sort of self-racism right thereโ€ฆ but these stereotypes are hard to shake off. I canโ€™t cook, either. Lol.

Because today I got up so early, the rats were still active and excited. It was nice to see them so perky. I watched the sunrise from my windowโ€ฆ now itโ€™s time to start my day.

Soon after I got ready to head out to Dollar Tree ๐ŸŒณ and do some grocery shopping. This is hands down my favorite pair of overalls currently!

You couldn’t see my socks but they are decently cute too:

Also, I love this bracelet so freaking much!! myrcurystoybox gave it to me at Megaplex last August. Itโ€™s one of my favorites!

While out and about, I noticed Spirit Halloween is getting ready to open! ๐ŸŽƒ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ•ธ๐Ÿ•ท๐Ÿฆ‡ I can hardly wait.

My local Publix had an ecstatic Cookie Monster piรฑata surrounded by cookies for their BOGO deal of the week! ๐Ÿช It was pretty funny.

Iโ€™ve been trying my best to stay cheerful and work really hard.๐Ÿ’•๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿงธ

I thought I got the cats a seasonal toy, but itโ€™s a condor, not a turkey. ๐Ÿฆƒ Itโ€™s pretty funny looking, though:

Post shopping snack. โ˜•๏ธ ๐Ÿช My mood has been all over the placeโ€ฆ Already said it, but, I canโ€™t wait to have the house cleaned so I can decorate and then invite some friends over. I think that will do me good.

Tomoyo kept me company. To call Tomoyo a handful would be the understatement of the year. But I still love her very much.

In other news, Jane, as her original owner had named, arrived today. I tweaked that name slightly โ€”for me, sheโ€™ll be Janie. She seemed to have a slightly smell, maybe cigarettes I donโ€™t know, thankfully it was SUPER faint but Iโ€™m very sensitive to those, so I febreezed her and left her in the hot Florida sun a few hours. Good as new!

I had the shirt and bow and made the necklace, her owner sent me the little pinafore. I think Janie looks very happy in her new home!

She looks very much like a koala to me ๐Ÿจ So thatโ€™s what I think her as being.
